7 Tips on Creating a Professional New Year Slideshow

New Year is approaching and you probably have already planned for a party to take place at home. If you are inviting friends over at New Year, you should not forget to take your camera and snap a few photos to keep the memorable moments. Afterwards, you can compile them into a slideshow and post the video on your social media account to show off to your followers. The following are 7 things to keep in mind in order to create a professional New Year slideshow.

1.Choose the Right Slideshow Movie Maker

Firstly, you need to get a suitable slideshow maker like Movavi Slideshow Maker for Mac that at least allows you to export to HD like 720p or 1080p. It must be able to output the slideshow into a format that is compatible to different mobile devices. It should have an intuitive interface for customizing the slides, and let you add elements like text into the slideshow.

2.Assemble All Your Photos

Before starting, you must sort all your photos in order. This step is crucial if you have a large collection of photos to compile. In this way, you will not accidentally leave out important photos. You can sort the photos by renaming the files with a sequential number. You can use a free batch rename tool to rename all the files once and for all instead of manually renaming the file one by one. Or, you can just drop them into the timeline in the software and drag them to rearrange them into the desired order. The photos should not be too large as doing so may cause your software to slow down.

 3.Estimate Slideshow Length

The next step is to estimate the video length. This will give you an idea on how many photos to include in the video. You can use the online slideshow calculator to roughly estimate the length of the video. By knowing the estimated slideshow length, you can avoid timing issue when making the presentation. It also let you know ahead of time what photos you should use in the presentation. Get more details at

As a rule of thumb, you should always keep the slideshow short. Slideshows that are too long will bore the audience. It is recommended that your slideshow contains not more than 50 – 60 photos and each slide should only last for about 3 – 5 seconds. Only the important photos should be included in the slideshow.

 4.Add Text to Slideshow

If you want to add text, make sure you don’t write too many words and keep at only one sentence. You can also highlight the important words in the sentence to draw attention. You should only include the most important information. A slide with one short sentence looks much better that a paragraph of text in small font point. Another reminder is to not display the text on a distracting background.

 5.Add Motions to Slideshow

You can add some motions in the slideshow, for example, text animation, to create emotion and help the audience to absorb information more easily. You should use only a limited selection of transition styles so there is a unified theme throughout the slideshow. For example, you can only use 4 – 8 transition effects for 6 – 12 slides. You can use the Montage Wizard feature in Movavi Slideshow Maker for Mac to automate the process in 3 steps including add photos, add transitions and add music.

 6.Add Background Music

You can add a background music that matches with the mood of the slideshow. It is best to select a simple music that does not dominate the slideshow. You must not attempt to use copyright music as YouTube will remove such videos. In Movavi Slideshow Maker for Mac, there is a built in royalty free music collection that you can use to add mood to your video. To add a royalty free music, click the music note button on the left and select one of the music clip from the select one of our tracks drop down menu. If you want to use your own background music, you can click the add audio files button and select the audio file from your computer.

7.Exporting the Slideshow

Before exporting the slideshow, you should play back the presentation and make sure everything is correct. You can rehearse your speech as you play back the slideshow to make sure you can follow up with the slideshow during the presentation. When you are ready to save the slideshow, click the export button and choose the preferred format. In fact, you should be saving your slideshow every 5 – 10 minutes to avoid losing any work.
