WhatsApp last week finally announced the ability to mute chat conversations on its app… forever.
Many would argue that the best way for anyone to permanently mute a conversation on WhatsApp would be to simply uninstall the app. Sure, that would be the easiest, but say you don’t want to get rid of WhatsApp because there are some conversations you want to follow at your convenience?
Well, WhatsApp finally has the answer. Users on Android, iOS, and the web are now able to mute a chat forever, in addition to 8 hours and one week.
The new feature is called “Always Mute” and was added to the WhatsApp beta on Android and iOS earlier this month. It was even spotted late last month by 9to5Google. Now, as announced by WhatsApp last week, the feature is available for everyone.

How to Mute a WhatsApp Chat Forever
- Open WhatsApp, go to your conversations list, and long press on the chat you want to mute.
- Tap on the mute icon at the top, and select “Always.”
- If you want to use the feature on the WhatsApp Web client, you can find it by right-clicking on any chat and selecting “Mute Notification.”
You can use the new feature to mute individual chats or group chats as well. If you don’t have it yet, make sure to update your app. With this change, you can now mute conversations for 8 hours, one week, or “always.”
On the same front, WhatsApp is expected to roll out the ability to secure chats with face unlock within the next few weeks. We are also expecting a new “Multiple Devices” feature that will allow you to use up to found different devices with the same WhatsApp account.
Some more great news: According to WABetaInfo, the WhatsApp Web client is expected to be upgraded with the ability to make audio and video calls.
