In case you didn’t know, Google phones existed way before the Pixel lineup. For example, there was the Nexus series. And before the Pixel phones existed, the team utilized a different launcher to offer the users a clean and vanilla experience. Yes, it is the Google Now Launcher.
This launcher came way before the Pixel Launcher and existed primarily in the Nexus lineup of phones from the early 2010s. However, Google did eventually make the launcher available to phones of other brands. And over time, it got a good amount of popularity.
Well, sadly, Google delisted the launcher back in 2018. And even though it is still available now, it will finally be dead sometime this month.
IT’S TIME TO SAY GOODBYE TO GOOGLE NOW LAUNCHER
The report comes from the team of 9to5Google, which has gone through the latest Google beta app. From version 14. 14, the team was able to discover that the launcher would soon stop working in April. And no, it is not a late April Fools Day joke; 9to5Google has even provided a relevant screen regarding the matter.
GIZCHINA NEWS OF THE WEEK
Are you currently using the Google Now Launcher? In that case, you must install a different launcher or stick with the default launcher that shipped with your phone. Want to know what will happen if you do not switch? Well, after Google’s launcher is gone, your phone will simply switch to its default launcher automatically.
That said, this act of killing the Google Now launcher is not that surprising, though. As mentioned earlier, Google pulled the app from the Play Store back in 2018. With that, it announced that the app would be incompatible with every Android device. Moreover, the app did not even see any modern updates. So, very few phones had the support for the app.
